Dirt Bike Essentials - Gear Stash

A list of essential items for when things get adventurous!

Curated by Brandon Patton, our in-house racer and mechanic
He rides a 2025 KTM 300XC, so his stash will be tailored to that brand.

TOOLS:

- 6,8,10,12mm sockets + T45
- needle-nose pliers and small vise grips
- 4mm allen key
- Zip ties, tie wire, JB Weld SteelStik, and tape
- combination wrench (I have the KTM one that comes with the bike that fits axles and spark plug)

"I carry a small tool pouch that fits neatly into my airbox, which keeps the pack weight down. The tools you need vary based on your bike. Combination tools are great as they save room and weight. You'll get an idea of what basic adjustments and repairs are required as you get to know your bike. It's always nice to have some extra stuff for your friends as well.
For tires, I don't carry tire tools because I don't have air. If you do, you'll want a pump/CO2 cartridge, levers, and either tire plugs for Tubliss or a patch kit for tubes."

SPARE PARTS:

- Clutch and front brake lever, rear brake tip, shifter
- Spark plug
- Chain connecting link.
- Assorted nuts and bolts

If riding on a mutli-day trip, don't forget spare air filters that have been pre-oiled! Especially if conditions are dusty and you are riding with a big crew.

MISCELLANEOUS:

- Granola bars, candy, energy chews, nuts, fruit puree pouches (baby food)
- First aid kit (know what's in it and how to use it in an emergency. Think worst-case scenarios, such as tourniquets, large bandages, splints, and pain relief.
Headlight (charged!)
